I bought a cheap electric sharpener, moved my wrist a little off angle, and now the side of my buck 119 has this burn line on it. So yeah. any advice?

I just bought an old vintage stiletto but its dull as hell. I’m wondering how to sharpen it correctly (without screwing up the blade). I have a regular kitchen knife sharpener but don’t know if I should use that. Any ideas?
No its like a long block with like a "V"shaped area to run the blade down.

Thinking about getting a partially serrated edge but don’t know how to sharpen. Do I need to take it to a professional? Do I need an electric sharpener? Or can I simply use a manual hand sharpener?

I have a ka-bar Combat knife but it’s blunt as hell. I tried sharpening it with a whetstone but it isn’t sharp enough. I can’t afford to buy any other sharpener. Can you please tell me the proper to sharpen it? I want it to be sharp as a razor.

And, I bet somebody is going to put something on their list that I forgot. Is there anybody out there that has a more ridiculous list than I (and trust me, half of my list is a waste).

I want to get a good knife sharpner for my husband for fathers day. He has lots of knifes. Hunting, skinning, fishing, work and many different pocket knifes. He is he kinda picky when it come to his knifes (and guns) and hunting/fishing gear so I want to get him a good one that he will use. He lost his old one in the river a while back and has been working too much to go find a new one. He had the old one for since he was a teenager and I can’t find the same one pretty sure they don’t make it anymore. He wants them sharp enough to cut his leg hair (thats how he test it to see if it is sharp enough). I need one that will sharpen all blades or maybe a kit sorta thing. Please give me the brand type and store or site I can buy it from. This is his frist fathers day as we our new parents and he made my mothers day good I would like to do the same for him. Please help.

ANYWAY: I feel like every time I do something wrong, i get into trouble, but when my cousin does the same thing she is treated like the golden child. (My cousin is 16 rite now)

When i was in school i had accidentally brought a little pocket knife (no bigger that my pinky) to school. (i was picking stuff of the flood before i left for school) . At school, i was digging in my pockets and i took out the knife and i was like "oh crap i forgot to put the pocket knife in my room." Then the teacher seen me and i got a week of detention.

I told that to my cousin. Then about a year later (7th grade) she bring a knife to school (about the size of your hand) and she tried to SELL the knife. guess what happened. She was suspended? NO! she was expelled? NO! she went to jail? NO NO NO!!!! they signed her up for some youth program and she got to go of field trips almost every week. WAIT A MIN. i ACCIDENTAL bring a pinky size pocket knife and i get a weeks detention. She tried to sell some crocidile dundee knife. and she goes on trip to the mall and the zoo and the movies and dinner FOR FREE. oh and another thing. When the family found out i brought a knife to school they treated me like of was some kind of bad seed, but when my cousin tried to sell a knife, they say "she was just havin a rough day. AHHHH

Another time when i was in high school i (i cant belived im saying this ) i stole a pencil sharpener of my teachers desk. I know, "oh my god your stupid" but it was electric and GREEN. Well, I didnt get detention, but they did call my dad and my dad told EVERYONE. and once again i was the bad seed.

a few years later my cousin and our aunt were shopping and my aunt caught my cousin trying to put some dvd into her bag. Later on that nite, my cousin was arguing with her mom so our aunt called the cops to scare her ( i guess it worked cause she peed in her pants). then a week later, she argues with her mom again and tried to run away. Then another week later its her birthday and they throw her a sweet 16. All that trouble she got into and she STILL gets a party with cake and presents and decorations (no i did not go, but they told me about it) All i got for a sweet 16 party was a half a bag a potato chips a ugly cake with flowers ( i told them a million time i hate flowers) and no presents. i told my family that too. "she shoplifts and tried to run away and she still gets a party. When i took the pencil sharpener, the family thought of me a bad bad bad person for the longest time. But she goes and steals dvds from WAL MART they fforgotbout it THE NEXT DAY!!!! what the hell

please, no stupid or mean coments.. i feel bad enough. just…tell me if you feel the same way about some one in your family. i would love to hear storied. long or short it does not matter.

I recently caught the high end pocket knife bug. I bought myself a small Chris Reeve Sebenza pocket knife a few weeks ago and it has gotten a little dull. I tried to sharpen it on an old sharpening stone my grandpa gave me and being unexperienced at sharpening, not only did it seem to make my knife more dull then it already was, it also put a few ugly scratches on the side of my nice knife.

Anyway, getting to the point… I ordered a nicer Spyderco knife sharpener online but I’ve noticed in a few youtube instructional videos that a lot of people use a leather strop on their knife after they sharpen it. I was wondering if I needed to go order a leather strop. What does the strop do for me?
@Colonol: It’s a Small Sebenza. So far it’s the only knife I have other than an old buck knife.

I have quite a few pocket knives and an 8 dollar sharpening stone but i just can’t get it sharp enough.
